Job Description: Youth Staff/Councillor Positions on Board Cruise Ships
Youth Activities Co-ordinators/Councillors: This position is sometimes synonymous with Child Care and babysitting; on some ships, workers are even called Nannies.
The Youth Councillors create new children抯 programmes and implement new and existing youth activities. These activities can include games, contests, scavenger hunts, sports and fitness instruction, arts and crafts and kid抯 parties. Primarily you will be supervising children from the ages of 2-17. Occasionally these positions escort children on shore excursions.
Reporting to the Youth Director, your role will be key to the safety and enjoyment of our younger passengers
Job Requirements
You should be aged over 21 years and have had at least 3 years experience working in youth care, teaching or recreation.
Bachelors Degree or equivalent
A qualification in Childcare equivalent to NVQ Level 3 is required for working with under 8 year olds, and either a qualification in teaching, recreation or equivalent experience is required for working on teen programmes.
Naturally you will be able to create an immediate rapport with children/teenagers, have excellent communication skills, and be eager for the challenge of looking after younger passengers
Fluent English language skills required.
Must be able to provide quality service for a large Youth programme that can include 1000-3000 guests including 600+ youth.
Must be computer literate with a knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Current CPR and First Aid Certification valid for at least one additional year
Successful applicants will be subjected to an enhanced CRB police check and references prior to contract
Additional responsibilities
As a member of the cruise staff, The Seasonal Youth/Teen Councillor is responsible to assist in discharging any of the scheduled social, entertainment or recreational activities, ensuring that each event takes place safely and promptly as scheduled.
Responsible for assisting with storage, inventory and ordering of all equipment, supplies, gifts and prizes, which are specifically utilised in the youth/teen programme.
Will serve as an effective host/hostess when needed to support the overall cruise programme and shipboard departments.
Salary: $1,800 - $2,100 US per month (approx �900 - �1,050 per month)
THE ABOVE SALARY IS AN AVERAGE SALARY AND WILL VARY WITH FLUCTUATION OF THE DOLLAR. IN ADDITION YOUR FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION IS INCLUDED AND YOUR SALARY IS NORMALLY TAX FREE IF YOUR CONTRACT IS FOR SIX MONTHS OR OVER. THESE CONTRACTS ARE RENEWABLE.
